Baaaaaaaall!

holding the man

Word on the street is that Neil Armfield’s adaptation of Timothy Conigrave’s memoir, Holding The Man, is an absolute ripper of a film. If this new trailer is anything to go by, those words on the streets and whatnot are correct. Armfield’s film recently closed out the Sydney Film Festival to an overwhelmingly positive reception. It’s got our vote because 1) it’s a film and 2) the title is an AFL related play on words.

“Tim and John fell in love while teenagers at their all-boys high school. John was captain of the football team, Tim an aspiring actor playing a minor part in Romeo and Juliet. Their romance endured for 15 years to laugh in the face of everything life threw at it – the separations, the discrimination, the temptations, the jealousies and the losses – until the only problem that love can’t solve, tried to destroy them.”

Holding The Man stars Guy Pearce, Sarah Snook, Anthony LaPaglia, Ryan Corr, Kerry Fox and Tom Hobbs and is set for release in August, 2015.
