Do the right thing.

Some of you may remember a time in which Spike Lee made great films, and wasn’t just somebody who popped up in news stories on the internet, yelling at people. Some of you may not. But it was a time and it was real and Do The Right Thing is an absolute zinger of a flick.

Lee’s best when he’s tackling important issues (or when he’s angry but he always seems sort of angry), so perhaps Chi-Raq will be a return to form considering how often we see headlines concerning gun violence in America. It’s been a long time since the late 80s and we’re more than ready for a really memorable Spike Lee Joint.

Incidentally, Chi-Raq is also the inaugural original movie release from Amazon Studios.

“A modern day adaptation of the ancient Greek play Lysistrata by Aristophanes, set against the backdrop of gang violence in Chicago.”

Chi-Raq stars Teyonah Parris, Nick Cannon, John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, Wesley Snipes, Angela Bassett and Jennifer Hudson and is set for limited release in the United States and through video on demand in December, 2015.
